Relate in the community

People from every social, religious, ethnic or economic group can benefit from Relate counselling. We aim to make sure that no-one is asked to pay more than they can reasonably afford for counselling.

Despite this, we know that some of the people who would most benefit from our service are unlikely to come to our offices. We are always looking for ways in which we can work in partnership with others agencies to make our service available locally to socially excluded or disadvantaged parts of our community.

Our experience of working in these areas has shown that people often come by referral from their GPs with depression and other health problems. It is known that counselling can be both more effective and more permanent than medication as a treatment for depression. Attending a course of counselling can be a life-changing experience for people who are struggling with complex family problems in very difficult circumstances. Our OCN accredited courses such as 'Taking Charge of Your Life' have also been run very effectively in these areas, and have been the first step back into education or paid work for some of our students.

If you would like to discuss ways in which Relate might work in partnership with your agency, or in your community, please contact us.
