How we are funded

Relate Nottinghamshire is a member of the Relate Federation. Our Central Office in Rugby receives limited funding from central government, but each Relate Centre around the country is an independent charity receiving no direct funding from the government. An Executive Committee of voluntary trustees has overall responsibility for deciding the strategic direction of the centre and for it's financial management.

We are fortunate that we receive funding to support our work from the Nottinghamshire County Council, the City Council and some district and borough councils in the area. We also receive some funding from local Primary Care Trusts and private trust funds. We are very grateful to all our funders as without their support we would not be able to continue to offer Relate services in the county. However this funding currently makes up only about 25% of what it costs us to run to service, and as a result it is essential that clients pay as much towards the cost of their counselling as is reasonable given their particular financial circumstances.

By these means we hope not only to balance our books, but also to keep access to Relate services open to everyone in our local community, including those who may be financially disadvantaged by disability, illness, low paid employment or other factors.

At Relate Nottinghamshire our policy is to offer the same high quality counselling to all our clients, however much or however little they can afford to pay. Please go to Payment Guidelines for further information about how contributions are calculated.
