Training to be a counsellor

Being a Relate counsellor is an incredibly interesting and rewarding job where you can make a difference to the lives of many people. Relate has around 2000 counsellors all of whom receive regular supervision and support throughout their training and practice. Relate offers excellent opportunities for personal growth and development and further training for those who want to specialise in a particular form of relationship counselling such as family counselling or counselling for young people.

The entry level qualification to train as a Relate counsellor is our Graduate Certificate in Couple Counselling, which is a one year course combining theoretical study with supervised clinical practice at a Relate centre.

Counsellors who already have a substantial qualification in counselling may have the opportunity to join the 'fast-track' programme.

At Relate Nottinghamshire we offer placements to students studying on Relate courses, and the opportunity to apply for a paid contract of employment when qualified. Voluntary opportunities are also available.

As many of our services are offered at weekends and evenings the opportunity for flexible working enables you to fit Relate work around other commitments.
