Parenting
It is well recognised that 'good enough' parenting is fundamental to the emotional health and well being of children, and provides the foundations for everything that follows. However being a good parent is no easy matter. Even when we try our best there are times when we don’t get it right. If we are struggling to cope with other life problems, or have grown up in difficult circumstances ourselves, then bringing up children can be a minefield.
The Relate2you Parenting Project works with families at locations around the City of Nottingham. The focus of the work is to support parents by offering a range of services delivered by qualified counsellors and trainers. These include:-
- Individual counselling for adult parents and carers, including single parents who are struggling to cope with life problems and parenting issues.
- Couple counselling for adult couples whose relationship problems are impacting on their ability to parent/step-parent successfully
- Family counselling – to include any/all members of a family group where it is recognised that a child is affected by family problems; or where parents perceive the child as being ‘a problem’.
- Young people counselling, to support children of 11-19 with social, emotional and behavioural problems – often arising from family issues.
- Informal group work with parents, building peer mentoring opportunities.
- More formal training opportunities, such as a courses on 'Looking at Anger' and 'Taking Charge of Your Life'.
- Signposting to other sources of help and support.
The Relate2you Parenting Support service is provided at a number of different locations around the City, and is primarily funded by the Parenting Fund. The project also receives support from the City of Nottingham, and services are free to parents.
