'One-Off' Counselling Sessions

When might a 'One-Off' session be helpful?... You decide...

Everyone experiences difficulties at some point in their lives and the problems that can arise in a relationship are no different. It can often be something outside the relationship that causes the most stress such as health, work, children, bereavement or trying to manage the demands of a previous relationship with a new one.

Because it involves people that are close to you it can be hard to talk to friends and family about these issues without adding to their burden, causing upset, hurt or further arguments. Talking to someone who is not involved or wanting to take sides can be very beneficial. So a one off counselling session with an experienced and professional counsellor can help you to clarify the situation and what the options are without the need for further sessions.

We do not offer legal, financial or medical advice.

A 'One-Off' appointment allows you the opportunity to discuss any issues in your couple or family relationships which are causing you concern. Examples might be:-

  • Ill health, disability or bereavement - Health problems in the family put significant pressure on relationships. A single session may be enough to explore your feelings and help you and your family to cope.
  • Life Stages - Birth of children, adolescence, 'empty nests', menopause, mid life crisis, retirement etc. New phases of life bring different pressures on family relationships. A discussion with a counsellor can help you to weather the storms.
  • Work issues - Your relationships may be affected by work pressure, redundancy/job loss, or issues about work/life balance. A session with a counsellor can help you to manage this.
  • Parting Parents - Separation and divorce can be very damaging for children, particularly when there is conflict between parents. A 'One-Off' session can help you to discuss how you can continue to be good parents, even when your couple relationship is over.
  • Step families - Step family relationships can bring their own problems. A 'One-Off' session before you move in together can help you to explore and plan for potential problems. Alternatively a single Family Counselling session to discuss problems which have arisen in your extended family can help get things back on track.
  • 'Pre commitment sessions' - Making a commitment to a partner, whether by marriage, living together or otherwise is a big step. It can be helpful to talk over your hopes and fears for the future with a counsellor, and to discuss 'sticky' issues such as attitudes to money, children, fidelity, 'in laws' - or whatever is worrying you.
