Counselling, support and information for all relationships
Hi everyone, I am Andrea Bullock, and I am a qualified Counsellor and Psychotherapist working in private practice in Nottingham. I work with both individuals and couples in my private work, and it was the work that I do with couples that sparked my interest to embark on further training in Psychosexual Therapy (PST).
I am honoured to have been chosen by Relate Nottingham and Nottinghamshire to conduct my student placement in psychosexual therapy couples’ work. I sought out this placement because of its excellent reputation in supporting, not only their clients, but also those that work here. I have already benefitted from accessing their online continuous professional development courses, which are excellent. I also have an experienced and excellent supervisor, who I seek support and advice from. I am really proud to be part of the team here in Nottingham.

I started the Masters in Contemporary Psychosexual Therapy with the University of Doncaster, back in September and I am thoroughly enjoying the course. We have been learning about the psychosexual process itself, which includes an assessment, this determines if PST is the most appropriate therapy for you, or if you would benefit more with relationship counselling in the first instance. Then each partner completes a history take, which gives me a richer picture of you as an individual and how you are in your relationship. Next comes the formulation, where I present to you my thoughts on what I think might be going on for you both, this is a really collaborative process, and the formulation develops the further we go into our work together. We also discuss treatment plans for you as individuals and as a couple, which will include experiments that you do both on your own and as a couple.

I am learning about the whole person- Biopsychosocial (Biological; psychological and social) elements and how these can affect the way we are, from self esteem and body image to painful sex and issues with erections.

I work in a way that gives you opportunity to feedback, explore how things are going – there is no right or wrong in psychosexual therapy, there is just exploring and experimenting. Hopefully, you’ll find it a lot of fun.

Its also really exciting to become a student member of the College of Sexual and Relationship Therapists (COSRT). I have been able to attend (virtually) their training and workshops, one in particular was so helpful, especially in today’s climate – “Working with clients online”. I can honestly say that before the horrible Covid 19, I had avoided working online with clients, but since 2020, I have been reassured by its safe and has end to end encryption, reassuring me that its confidential- and it seems we are all so tech-savvy now!

I am really excited and looking forward to putting what I have learned into practice at Relate, in order to support those who want help in this area of their relationship. So, if you are considering sex therapy for your relationship, please do get in touch. Call us on 0115 958 4278 or drop us an email info@relate-nottingham.org.uk for more information.
